Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton promised retirees that if elected president she will not cut Social Security benefits, raise the retirement age or privatize the taxpayer-funded system.

Sounds like a promise to raise taxes to me. But what can I expect from the person who said “We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good“?

Seriously though, the social security situation is truly a crisis that could destroy the US and by extension the world economy, it’s far more serious than global warming. There aren’t any good solutions, but if you say that you won’t cut, won’t raise the age, and won’t privatize, there’s no way to make up the shortfall other than by raising withholding taxes that predominantly affect the poor. This is an issue that will truly affect future generations, as each active worker needs to support more and more seniors claiming benefits.

Personally, I advocate the solution espoused in Christopher Buckley’s book Boomsday: Offer seniors an estate tax break if they’ll willingly commit suicide at 65. It’d solve the problem, and frankly I fucking hate baby boomers anyway.
